Solving this problem starts with you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Start by improving your AI acumen, urged David and Doug. Practice using AI, and figure out its capabilities and limitations. Have conversations with ChatGPT and other services to test out a variety of prompts and questions. \u201cPeople who have good delegation skills will have an easier time learning how to use AI,\u201d David said, since generating functional output using AI tools is very similar to explaining what you need from a colleague to successfully hand off a task.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By actively using generative AI tools, you\u2019ll learn how to unlock the most value, write effective prompts, and apply human judgment to AI\u2019s findings. HR needs to get ahead of this trend for numerous reasons, including to avoid inadvertent exposure of company information to public-facing AI tools, Doug said. HR can be a leader \u2014 shaping how the organization uses AI to support employees, managers, and business goals.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AI in HR, meanwhile, has immense potential to drive strategic value \u2014 and 64% of employees already report using it for strategic work, according to the Betterworks report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWork with your leadership to come up with your own language around how you&#8217;re going to use AI, how you talk about it externally, how you&#8217;re going to protect people that use it,\u201d Doug said. \u201cAnd have models for what your expectations are for when people interact with it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>HR has a strategic responsibility to drive change and innovation while protecting the employee experience \u2014 and AI adoption aligns with this mission. &#8220;As HR professionals, we have to help drive the change to enable people to embrace AI in the workplace,\u201d David said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"580\" src=\"https:\/\/www.betterworks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Webinar-Recap-Doug-Dennerline-AI-Will-Profoundly-Change-the-Way-That-People-Work-SEO-Internal-2-1024x580.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-102570\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.betterworks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Webinar-Recap-Doug-Dennerline-AI-Will-Profoundly-Change-the-Way-That-People-Work-SEO-Internal-2-1024x580.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.betterworks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Webinar-Recap-Doug-Dennerline-AI-Will-Profoundly-Change-the-Way-That-People-Work-SEO-Internal-2-980x555.jpg 980w, https:\/\/www.betterworks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Webinar-Recap-Doug-Dennerline-AI-Will-Profoundly-Change-the-Way-That-People-Work-SEO-Internal-2-480x272.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-teach-the-workforce-to-use-ai-safely\"><strong>Teach the workforce to use AI safely<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To apply AI tools safely and responsibly, you need to focus on enhancing work, not replacing humans. \u201cThe truth is, this is just a tool that&#8217;s going to augment our jobs, our judgment, change the way that we work \u2014 I think mostly for the better \u2014 but it is just a tool, and it&#8217;s not always going to be perfect nor right,\u201d David said. \u201cWe need to do our diligence.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Train managers and employees on how to craft effective prompts so they can get the most value from AI in an efficient way. Audit AI recommendations and outputs to ensure they align with your company&#8217;s values and priorities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"lazyblock-recommended-content-Z2fqCEa align  wp-block-lazyblock-recommended-content\"><div class=\"recommended-read-notice\">Recommended content<\/div> \n        <div class=\"recommended-read-box\">\n            <div class=\"recommended-read-image\" style=\"display:inherit;\">\n                <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.betterworks.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/2023-TakingReinsAI-Thumb-2.png\" alt=\"\">\n            <\/div>          \n            <div class=\"recommended-read-text\">\n              <div class=\"\" style=\"margin-top:px;font-size:16px;\"><h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.betterworks.com\/taking-the-reins-managing-generative-ai\/\">Your guide to the safe use of GenAI<\/a><\/h2><\/div>\n                \n            <\/div>\n        <\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Consider custom models, like the model used by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.betterworks.com\/product\/performance-management-software\/\">Betterworks\u2019 intelligent performance management platform<\/a>, that train exclusively on your company&#8217;s internal data. This can avoid built-in biases from public models, produce tailored results, and protect your intellectual property. \u201cCustom-built models that operate within the four walls of your organization are interesting for a lot of reasons, including the ability to help create more authenticity,\u201d David said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While there are always risks from introducing new technology, \u201cthe positives of AI far, far outweigh the potential negatives,\u201d Doug said.
