But you can\u2019t deliver a stellar customer experience without first investing in your employee experience.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf you have teams who are not connected, if you have leaders who are not visionary enough, if you have processes that are really preventing people from doing their best work, then it&#8217;s incredibly difficult to deliver to your customers,\u201d says <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/jeanniewalters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jeannie Walters<\/a>, customer experience expert and CEO at <a href=\"https:\/\/experienceinvestigators.com\/\">Experience Investigators<\/a>. She\u2019s also speaking at the upcoming People Fundamentals webinar session \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.betterworks.com\/elevating-everyone-unifying-ex-and-cx-for-better-business-performance-webinar\/\">Elevating Everyone: Unifying EX and CX for Better Business Performance<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s a taste of what Jeannie&#8217;s webinar covers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-vimeo wp-block-embed-vimeo wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"social_clip_1_-_aligning_values_for_success_fostering_a_customer-centric_culture (1080p)\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/904189374?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Connecting the dots between customer and employee experiences requires big-picture, strategic thinking from HR leaders \u2014 a mindset shift that Jeannie urges HR leaders to prioritize. \u201cThink about how important your role is to customers, to the outcomes of the organization,\u201d she says, \u201cbecause by providing those meaningful experiences <em>inside<\/em> the organization, we&#8217;re going to have more meaningful experiences to deliver to customers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We talked with Jeannie ahead of her People Fundamentals session about connecting employee and customer experiences and why that connection drives business results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-align-customer-and-employee-experiences\">Align customer and employee experiences<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The strongest brands deliver the same standard of experience to employees as they do to customers. The secret to elevating both is to think of them as related elements rather than separate journeys. Start by aligning your customer promise with your values as an employer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA lot of employees today are saying that they want to work with organizations that align with their values,\u201d Jeannie says. \u201cAnd if one of your values is delivering great things for your customers, but you&#8217;re not doing that for your employees, they feel that misalignment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reinforce the customer experience across the employee experience journey. Build it into your employer brand messaging to encourage a customer-centric culture \u2014 and recruit people who share those values. \u201cA lot of organizations have strong missions around customer experience, but they don&#8217;t necessarily share that in the hiring process,\u201d Jeannie says. \u201cBy sharing that from the beginning, you&#8217;ll have that alignment. You can use the same tools to standardize the employee experience. \u201cMake sure that we&#8217;re using the best practices that we&#8217;ve learned in customer experience and applying that to employee experience,\u201d Jeannie says.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you think of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.betterworks.com\/magazine\/humera-shahid-our-customer-is-the-employee\/\">employees as your customers<\/a>, you can work with your customer service team to apply customer journey mapping and other tools to the employee experience. Help each employee understand how their role \u2014 even if it isn\u2019t customer-facing \u2014 affects the customer experience.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEmployees want that sense of meaning and purpose,\u201d Jeannie says. \u201cWhen we can show them that their work has a direct impact on really helping somebody achieve a goal, helping a business do better \u2026 that can provide that meaning for employees.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Enrich employee purpose and experience even more by empowering employees to be proactive in customer service. If your staff notices processes that aren\u2019t working for customers, for example, \u201cdo they have a way to share that information, and are they empowered to do that?\u201d Jeannie says. \u201cBecause that will not just innovate around the customer journey, but it will also improve efficiency in the employee journey.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As HR leaders, you set the tone for unifying employee and customer experiences \u2014 and it\u2019s up to you to communicate that imperative to other business leaders. \u201cWe want leaders who care about customer experience. We want leaders who can innovate around these big ideas,\u201d Jeannie says. \u201cBy really helping connect those dots, you&#8217;re developing stronger leaders who are able to deliver longer term
